What is Travelwise NI School Run?

Travelwise NI School Run is a new web based journey sharing initiative (developed by Liftshare, School-Run.Org ) which will help take the stress out of the school journey.  The  initiative gives you the opportunity to find a travel partner for your children for the school journey, either walking, cycling, using public transport or car sharing.
Roads Service are carrying out a trial with 9 schools (listed below) from across Northern Ireland, parents of children from these schools will  have access to the programme during the school year 06/07.  The programme usage and effectiveness will be monitored over the trial period with a view to extending the facility to other schools in 07/08 school year

  • Primate Dixon Primary School, Coalisland
  • St Brigid's College, Londonderry
  • St Teresa's Primary School, Belfast
  • St Anthony's Primary School, Craigavon
  • St Joseph's College, Belfast

40% of children in Northern Ireland now make the School Run by car, that’s an increase of 7% from 1999.  Not only is this now having a serious impact on congestion and environmental pollution but also on the health and fitness of your children and their safety around the school gates in particular.

  1. Click on the link to the liftshare School Run.Org website www.school-run.orgOpens new browser window.
  2. Enter your schools name and the password provided by the school to access their individual site and register your journey details.
  3. The system will search its database and if possible, match your registered journey with others at the same school you simply contact them and make your travel arrangements.
  4. If you do not have access to a computer just contact your schools administrator and they will register your journey details for you.
